David Pon Peñalba

Born in Barcelona in 1971.

Head of the Development and Innovation Department. He joined the Minuartia team in 1997.

He holds an Environmental Science Degree, a Civil Engineering Diploma and a postgraduate qualification in Architecture and the Environment.

He has extensive experience in the field of planning and assessing public sustainability policies on a local scale, both in the framework of Local Agenda 21 and in terms of climate change plans. He has worked on planning processes for over sixty municipalities and has participated in pilot projects to develop methodology in several of Spain's autonomous communities. He is coauthor of various methodological guidelines on sustainable local planning and citizen participation, and has drawn up local sustainability reports for the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country.

He has jointly coordinated the following: technical assistance for strategically planning and starting up the Basque Network of Municipalities for Sustainability-Udalsarea 21; the Gipuzkoa Observatory for Sustainability; and the CAPV's Local Agenda 21 annual monitoring programmes, which cover almost a hundred municipalities.

Since 1999, he has worked in the field of ecological and carbon footprints, and has coordinated scores of studies on pioneering applications at regional level (state, region and municipality) and for companies, in collaboration with research centres and consultants from several Spanish Autonomous Communities and from the UK. Currently, he focuses on consultancy, the development of IT applications, and communication resources for the innovative application of footprints to the formulation and modelling of public policies for sustainability, climate change and sustainable consumption at regional and municipal scale, as well as climate change policies for companies and public organisations.

He is coathor of a report on Spain's greenhouse gas emissions from the perspective of consumption, and of a report on the ecological footprint of Spain and its Autonomous Communities.
