Marc Fernández Bou

Born in Barcelona in 1976.

Head of projects in the Biodiversity Department.

He holds Forestry Engineer (2000) and Agricultural Engineer (1997) qualifications and has been a member of Minuartia since 2004.

He has extensive experience in the analysis of habitats and the identification of ecological corridors and optimum areas for the location of wildlife passages, through the application of analysis and landscape methods by means of GIS.

He has participated in several projects on fauna and transport corridors, both in Catalonia and in the rest of Spain, and on projects to monitor the effectiveness of fauna passages. He has coordinated such studies for different stretches of roads and for the high speed railway.

In addition, he is an expert on measures to prevent and correct the impact of small infrastructure on fauna and river habitats (dams, fords, canals, etc.) and has participated in drawing up various projects to restore riverbank environments. He has compiled reports on the impact of activities in river areas on the natural environment.

He has participated in various projects on protected fauna, such as monitoring the Unio aleroni in the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of the Garrotxa, and designing compensatory measures and protocols to mitigate the impact of the stretch of the high speed railway between Múrcia and Almeria on populations of Greek Tortoise (Testudo graeca).

He forms part of teams that are responsible for drawing up basic studies to review and/or extend special plans for protected natural areas, and for environmental assessment of alterations in the plans of several Catalan municipalities.
