Roser Campeny Valls

Born in Mataró in 1958.

Head of the Projects Department and founding member of MINUARTIA.

She holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Barcelona (UB), with a thesis titled: "Ecology of anuran amphibian larvae in Montseny".

She is an expert in the planning, development and management of natural spaces, and has undertaken projects in these fields since 1993. In Minuartia, she manages the teams that carry out studies in these areas. She also has extensive experience in the conservation of natural areas in urban development projects. She has led numerous baseline studies for drawing up or revising special protection plans and for expanding natural parks or other protected natural areas. Likewise, she has supervised plans for managing natural resources, plans for public use of areas, and studies to analyse and determine the visitor capacity of protected areas.

She has also led studies of ecological connectivity at regional and local level, frequently in relation to regional and urban planning. She undertakes tasks as technical secretary of the Working formed by the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs on habitat fragmentation. In particular, she coordinated work on the publication: "Technical prescriptions for reducing habitat fragmentation in planning and development phases".

In addition, in the area of biodiversity conservation, she has worked as a technical assistant for the Ministry of the Environment and Housing to draw up the Catalan strategy for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity. Since 2002, she has managed the programme for monitoring biodiversity in the woods of Catalonia, for the Forest Ownership Centre (CPF).

For many years, she has coordinated herpetology studies to monitor the amphibian populations in various protected natural areas in Catalonia. She has published numerous papers on herpetology, and particularly on amphibians, in scientific and specialised journals. She has also participated in conferences and scientific meetings in Spain and abroad, and has presented over twenty papers at such events.
